The Gloucester High School (GHS) Mentor Project is a one-to-one mentorship program offered by Wellspring in partnership with the Gloucester Education Foundation and Gloucester High School. The program's goal is to help as many GHS students as possible become successful young adults and engaged citizens by ensuring each student has a post-high school education or career training plan in place before graduation.

 The program will be available to 15 rising Gloucester High School Seniors in School Year 2023-2024

Mentors support students in the following ways: 

  • Share life experience and insight about their own career, life or education path 
  • Provide guidance, motivation, support and role modeling 
  • Meet with students at a minimum two times a month while maintaining weekly contact and accountability towards the student’s action steps and goals 
  • Help to identify resources (scholarships, job search, Wellspring resources and beyond)  
  • Enter timely notes into Wellspring’s database about student progress  
  • Attend mentor trainings and workshops to enhance skills and knowledge  

Mentor Qualifications:

  • Hold a post-secondary education certificate, college degree, or are in the process of degree completion and/or those who have strong self-taught career and/or entrepreneurial skills and a history of business success

Time commitments and Expectations

  • Attend an informal two-hour training
  • Commit to 4-8 hours each month (Includes meetings and contact with student)
  • Timely entering of notes
  • Attending workshops/trainings as needed
  • Commitment of 18 months (To support student through to their graduation)

Support for Mentors: Mentors receive support from Wellspring staff around mentee relationship-building, access to key resources for applying to college, scholarships and financial aid information, and additional resources for student job searches, career and skills-building
