Uncovering History & Celebrating Success at Wellspring House
Showcasing Gloucester’s Freeman Family Legacy & Wellspring’s Social Justice Mission
In 1826, the Freeman family came to live at the property where Wellspring is headquartered today. We are uncovering their untold family stories and achievements. Tied to Wellspring’s social justice mission, current students will be sharing their own success stories of overcoming barriers to create a brighter future for themselves and their families.
By celebrating all stories of success – especially those yet to be discovered – we fully empower our whole community to reach their potential.
Annual Event a True Celebration
On June 9, 2023, sponsors and supporters were invited to the Opening Celebration of the Freeman Family Exhibit, History Lives Here, at Wellspring’s historic home and shared in the achievements of current Wellspring students. Under the marquee, guests enjoyed live music from the 1890s – 1930s performed by The Blackburn Stompers, an early jazz era combo featuring members of the Cape Ann Big Band, and delicious light fare by Timothy S. Hopkins Catering, and desserts from our friends at Root.
In the historic rooms, we installed the beautiful exhibit History Lives Here to share the stories of the Freeman family. The sunporch was brightened with Sources of Strength, a PhotoVoice exhibit by current Wellspring participants working hard for a better future.
Thank you to an incredible group of corporate sponsors and collaborators who made Saturday’s community festival free and fun for all and a true weekend-long celebration!
