For more than 40 years, volunteers have been at the heart of Wellspring’s work. Since 1981, their time, expertise, and enthusiasm have helped us serve more than 2,000 individuals and families across 20+ North Shore cities and towns each year – providing the integrated support of homelessness prevention, transitional housing, education, job training, and career advising that helps people move from crisis to confidence. 

Wellspring invites volunteers to engage at their own pace, with flexible opportunities for both short-term and long-term commitments. Whether you have a single morning or an ongoing season to give, your time with Wellspring will have a meaningful and lasting impact on our community.

Group Opportunities

Wellspring offers a range of meaningful volunteer opportunities for businesses, schools, civic groups, and friends looking to give back together. 

Garden Days at Our West Gloucester Campus 

Nestled in the natural beauty of Cape Ann, Wellspring’s gardens are a cherished part of our mission, a grounding, peaceful space where the families and young adults we serve can rest, restore, and reconnect. In spring, summer, and fall, teams are welcome for half-day garden sessions led by our Gardens Manager. Work varies by season and may include planting, weeding, tending perennials, and preparing the grounds for winter. No gardening experience is necessary – just a willingness to get outside and give back together. 

Share Your Professional Expertise 

Employees and business partners can be matched with participants in our HOST program for resume reviews and mock job interviews, a proven program element that gives students structured practice applying professional skills and directly supports families working toward stable, higher-wage employment. 

Host a Donation Drive 

Year-round, we welcome teams to host donation drives for toiletries, linens, household supplies, and other everyday essentials. These items are not covered by most assistance programs, yet they are indispensable to the dignity and stability that make everything else possible. Your drive helps ensure families have what they need as they move into housing. Click HERE for more information.

Individual Opportunities 

Individual volunteers can support Wellspring as class assistants in our education programs or join regular gardening sessions, Wednesday and Saturday mornings, 9am to noon, throughout the summer and into the fall, led by Gardens Manager and our dedicated volunteer team. We’re also happy to collaborate on customized projects based on your unique skills and interests.
