M&T Charitable Foundation Awards Wellspring $7,500 to Help North Shore Families Build Lasting Financial Stability

When a young mother came to Wellspring, newly single and afraid she and her infant son would soon have nowhere to go, a job alone wasn’t going to fix things. She needed training, a budget, childcare, reliable transportation, and someone in her corner. When her car broke down partway through her surgical technician training, Wellspring covered the repair so she could keep going. Today she works in a hospital operating room earning $31 an hour, more than 50% above any previous wage, and she’s pursuing her RN degree.

Stories like hers are why we’re grateful to receive a $7,500 grant from The M&T Charitable Foundation in continued support of our HealthCare Office Support Training (HOST) Program.

Our approach works because support doesn’t stop at graduation. Last year:

  • 98% of HOST participants who faced a housing crisis during training stayed stably housed
  • 64% of the 40 alumni who returned for career advising reached a major milestone, such as a promotion, a raise, or further education

This year, we’re deepening that work by helping HOST alumni increase their wages by an average of 10% through promotions or new opportunities.

Thank you to The M&T Charitable Foundation for your continued partnership in helping North Shore families build careers and futures.
