Basic Needs and Homeless Prevention Services

Wellspring’s Family Shelter

Wellspring provides shelter to five families at a time who are experiencing homelessness. We work intensively with each family to help them find housing as quickly as possible. We also work with each family to help offset the trauma of homelessness and help them obtain the resources they need to stabilize their family. Families are often in need of childcare, healthcare, counseling, education and job training, food and clothing assistance. We work in partnership with other organizations in the community to connect families with what they need.

“Families come to Wellspring’s shelter from a place of great instability, says Director of Shelter Services Sarah Campbell. Many guests, when they first come, find their first experience of home.”

A network of generous volunteers and donors helps create this sense of home by painting rooms, baking cakes for families’ birthdays or goodbye parties, providing welcome baskets, and tending to a multitude of little details that cumulatively have a tremendous impact on helping guests uncover a sense of dignity and hope.

This work is funded in part by a contract with the state’s Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD). In order to be housed with us, a family must first be eligible for Emergency Assistance and placements are made by DHCD. If you are homeless or at imminent risk of homelessness, your local Department of Transitional Assistance office is where you should go to be assessed for Emergency Assistance. The office serving Cape Ann is located at 35 Congress Street, Salem, MA. The phone number is (978) 825-7300, Monday – Friday 7:00 am – 5:00 pm.
