Are you ready for a better life? Do you need a GED or a pathway to a good job?

ALI can help you to:

  • Prepare for the GED test
  • Enter the work force
  • Move into a better paying job
  • Get ready for college or a job training program
  • Increase your confidence

You will be able to learn computer skills and keyboarding (typing), and get help exploring job possibilities, interviewing skills and create a resume.

You will be able to focus on the English, writing and math skills that will help you to get your GED, prepare for college, or qualify for a better job.

It’s okay if you had a tough time in a school setting before. This isn’t a typical classroom. Our classes are a mix of group work and individual tutoring. This allows every student to go at their own pace, and to be in charge of their own learning. You decide what your goals are, and we will assist you on the learning journey.

ALI sessions are 8 weeks long. You will be asked to commit to attending for the whole session. Classes are Monday through Friday, from 8:45 am – 12:30 pm, and there is an optional independent study time with a teacher and tutors present from 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm.

For students with scheduling challenges, there are options to the 5 day intensive program. We do have the flexibility of offering 2 tracks. It is possible to take the math and English classes 2 days of the week, and the computer and career development classes 3 days of the week.

ALI is open to women and men who meet income eligibility guidelines. Students range in age from 18 to 60. There is no charge for this program to participants. Wellspring’s generous donors make this possible.

Classes are held at Wellspring House, 302 Essex Avenue, Gloucester, MA 01930

Here is what ALI Graduates say:

Alesandria Urena
Graduation Speech:

“When the ALI program was first mentioned to me I’m going to be honest, the first thought in my head was no way am I doing this. I felt it might be too much for me as well as something I would fail at. However, something inside me said to give it a shot and that I’ll lose nothing from trying.

I could have never imagined what awaited me at the end of this course. I’ve make friends that are true, real and will always have a place in my heart, for the fact that we are all connected in experiencing this journey together.

I’ve met teachers that have truly changed the way I think, view the world and view myself. Each and every one of them different in their own way but still sharing the same common interest of helping and caring for us students, while making us believe that we can.

I am now leaving the ALI program with confidence in my mind, drive in my heart and fearlessness in my soul. I would not take this experience back for anything in the world. I want to say thank you to the ALI program and thank you for helping us all better our futures.” – Alesandria Urena
