One Family Scholars

The One Family Scholars program is committed to ending family homelessness, one family at a time, by providing supports to single female heads of households with minor children under the age of 18 who are homeless, formerly homeless, or at risk of homelessness to obtain higher education and leadership training because we believe education is the most reliable and direct route to economic stability.

More than financial aid, One Family Scholars is a program in which scholars are active participants in the shared goal of lifting themselves and their families out of poverty through education, through taking leadership as ambassadors of One Family, Inc.’s network and through working as agents of change to end family homelessness. For more information, contact Gail Mountain at 978-283-1972, gail@wellspringhouse.org, or check out the website at www.onefamilyinc.org.

One Family, Inc., originally created by Paul and Phyllis Fireman and family, is a not-for-profit organization devoted to ending family homelessness in Massachusetts and serves as a model nationwide. In the 6th year of the scholarship program, One Family, Inc. continues to grow partnerships and continues to work to bring together elected officials, faith and community organizations, philanthropic and private leaders to design and implement effective, lasting solutions to family homelessness.

By shifting the focus from temporary fix to solutions, One Family is solving the family homelessness problem by breaking the cycle of poverty and by providing stability for future generations - one family at a time, while awakening the broader public to the realization that we are all one family and that our public policies and private acts must be responsive to the plight of our poorest members.

The One Family Scholars Program, based at Wellspring House, Inc., is just one of many One Family Scholars programs in the state.  Read more about the One Family Scholars program, its history, and its mission.
