Foundations Program

Foundations is offered twice a year. Classes begin in September and in February.  The September 2008 session begins on September 8th, 2008.

The Foundations Program meets at the Veronese Community Education Resource Center at Wellspring House, 302 Essex Ave. in Gloucester, five days a week from 8:45 a.m. until 2:15 p.m. Vacations and holidays follow the Gloucester Public School calendar.

The overall goal of Foundations is to assist women in their quest to achieve personal and financial stability. Students are taught skills that help Foundations graduates build self-confidence and self-esteem. With constant support and careful guidance, they are directed toward careers and further education that will provide opportunities for advancement.

Graduates are encouraged to become active participants in their communities and to take on leadership roles whenever possible.

Seventeen weeks of classes, field trips, and special events are provided free of charge to women whose incomes qualify them for the program.

Foundations is offered twice a year. Classes begin in September and in February.

Students are eligible to apply for up to twelve college credits at North Shore Community College upon successful completion of the classes. Foundations provides classes for women who struggle with the effects of minimal education and insufficient income. The program is designed to meet the needs of women who want to:

• enter the workforce
• move into a better paying job
• brush up on study skills for college
• go to college or back to work after raising a family.

Classes include study of computers, English, math, career development, science, women in leadership: past and present, and personal success. Students range in age from 18 to 60.

Both job and education counseling are offered to students while they are enrolled in the program and after they graduate.
